PHARMOCILLIN
FOR CATTLE, SHEEP AND PIGS
PRESENTATION:
Suspension for injection.
Each ml contains 300 mg Procaine
Benzylpenicillin Ph. Eur.
USES:
For the treatment of systemic infections
caused by, or associated with, organisms sensitive
to penicillin.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
For deep intramuscular injection only.
The recommended dosage is 8 ml per 100 kg bodyweight,
i.e. 24,000 IU procaine penicillin per kg or 24 mg/kg
of procaine penicillin.
Dosage:
Cattle: 8.00 ml per 100 kg bodyweight
Calves: 4.00 ml per 50 kg bodyweight
Sheep: 2.00 ml per 25 kg bodyweight
Lambs: 0.80 ml per 10 kg bodyweight
Piglets: 0.40 ml per 5 kg bodyweight
Sows: 6.00 ml per 75 kg bodyweight
Clean the area of injection and swab with spirit.
The maximum dose volume recommended at any one site
for cattle is 20 ml.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS, WARNINGS ETC:
Not for use in animals with known sensitivity to penicillins.
Occasional allergic reactions to penicillins have
been observed, but these are rare.
Not for use in lactating ewes producing milk for human
consumption.
Occasionally, in suckling and fattening pigs, administration
of procaine penicillin may cause a transient pyrexia,
vomiting, shivering, listlessness and un-coordination.
Additionally, in pregnant sows and gilts, a vulval
discharge which could be associated with abortion
has been reported.
WITHDRAWAL PERIODS:
Milk should not be used for human consumption during
treatment or for 72 hours thereafter.
Animals should not be slaughtered for human consumption
during treatment or for 7 days thereafter.
PHARMACEUTICAL PRECAUTIONS:
KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
For animal treatment only.
Shake well before use.
Store between 2 degrees Centigrade and 8 degrees Centigrade.
Avoid the introduction of contamination during use.
Should any apparent growth or discolouration occur,
the product should be discarded.
Once the vial is broached, use contents within four
weeks.
Avoid contact with skin and wash hands after use.
PACKAGE QUANTITIES: 100 ml vials.
ENVIRONMENTAL WARNING:
Unused product or waste material should be disposed
of in accordance with current practice for pharmaceutical
waste under national waste disposal regulations. |
