PHARMYCIN 15
FOR CATTLE, SHEEP AND PIGS
PRESENTATION:
A 15% W/V INJECTABLE solution of 150mg Oxytetracycline
hydrochloride B.P. per ml, stabilized in an aqueous
/ solvent system.
USES:
PHARMYCIN 15 is recommended in the treatment of a wide
range of common systemic, respiratory, and local infections
caused by, or associated with, organisms sensitive to
Oxytetracycline.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
For intramuscular use only.
The recommended dosage is 5mg per kg or 1ml per 30kg
bodyweight.
Dosage:
Cattle: 5.00 ml per 150 kg bodyweight
Calves: 2.00 ml per 60 kg bodyweight
Sheep: 1.00 ml per 30 kg bodyweight
Lambs: 0.50 ml per 15 kg bodyweight
Piglets: 0.25 ml per 7.5 kg bodyweight
Weaners: 0.50 ml per 15 kg bodyweight
Fatteners / Sows: 2.00 ml per 60 kg bodyweight
These are average recommendations.
The period of treatment should extend from 3-5 days,
depending on the severity of the condition being treated.
The recommended maximum duration of therapy is 5 days.
If the injection volume exceeds 25 ml, use two separate
injection sites.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS, WARNINGS ETC:
PHARMYCIN 15 should not be used in sheep producing milk
for human consumption.
Occasional allergic reactions do occur, but these are
rare.
Use of tetracycline during the period of tooth development,
including late pregnancy, may lead to tooth discolouration.
Do not dilute PHARMYCIN 15.
PHARMYCIN 15 is well tolerated, but occasionally a slight
transient reaction may be observed at the injection
site.
Do not administer by the intravenous route.
Not for use in horses, dogs, and cats.
WITHDRAWAL PERIODS:
Milk should not be used for human consumption during
treatment or for 96 hours thereafter.
Animals should not be slaughtered for human consumption
during treatment or for 28 days thereafter.
PHARMACEUTICAL PRECAUTIONS:
KEEP
OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
Do not store above 25 degrees Centigrade.
This product contains no preservative.
Avoid contamination during use.
Once the vial is broached, use contents within four
weeks.
Should any apparent growth or discolouration occur,
the product should be discarded.
This product contains dimethylacetamide (DMAC) and care
should be taken to prevent absorption through the skin.
Wash hands after use.
PACKAGE QUANTITIES: 100 ml vials.
ENVIRONMENTAL WARNING:
Unused product or waste material should be disposed
of in accordance with current practice for pharmaceutical
waste under national waste disposal regulations. |
