RESPITE
FOR PIGS
PRESENTATION:
A feed premix containing 20% amoxicillin for incorporation
into pig feed.
The amoxicillin in RESPITE has been coated by a special
process which improves stability during the manufacture
and storage of pig feed (meal and pellets).
USES:
For the control of diseases cause by Streptococcus
suis in weaned piglets, and other bacterial infections
sensitive to amoxicillin.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
15 mg of amoxicillin per kg bodyweight, daily for
14 consecutive days. This dosage may be achieved
by the addition of:
400 ppm or 2 kg RESPITE per tonne of feed in starter
feed.
300 ppm or 1.50 kg RESPITE per tonne of feed in feed
intended for piglets older than 6 weeks.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS, WARNINGS ETC:
When handling this product, skin contact should be
avoided.
Adequate measures must be taken to avoid creating
dust when incorporating the product into feed.
Use a respirator / dust mask which complies with at
least European Standard EN 149 FFP1 and wear overalls,
impervious gloves and safety glasses.
Wash exposed skin after use.
Do not smoke or eat during use.
Penicillins and cephalosporins may cause hypersensitivity
(allergy) following injection, inhalation, ingestion,
or skin contact. Hypersensitivity to penicillins
may lead to cross-reactions to cephalosporins and
vice versa. Allergic reactions to these substances
may occasionally be serious.
Do not handle this product if you know you are sensitised
or if you have been advised not to work with such
preparations.
Handle this product with great care to avoid exposure,
taking all recommended precautions.
If, following exposure, you develop symptoms such
as skin rash, you should seek medical advice and show
the doctor this warning. Swelling of the face,
lips or eyes, or difficulty with breathing, are more
serious symptoms and require urgent medical attention.

WITHDRAWAL PERIOD:
Pigs intended for human consumption may only be slaughtered
after 3 days from the last administration of RESPITE.
PHARMACEUTICAL PRECAUTIONS:
The product
should be stored in its original packaging and kept
at a temperature not exceeding 30 degrees Centigrade.
Once incorporated into animal feed (meal / pellets)
the amoxicillin in RESPITE remains stable for over
90 days. To ensure thorough dispersion the product
should first be mixed with a suitable quantity of
feed before incorporation in the final mix.
In pelleting, the usual conditions should be respected,
i.e. temperatures not exceeding 80 degrees Centigrade,
humidity of around 18%, and pressure of about 10 bars.
Do not contaminate water by direct application or
by the improper disposal of drug containers.
Drug containers and any residual contents should be
disposed of safely, e.g. by burying in waste ground
away from water courses, or incineration.
